Hollow Roots

The field is dark. The grass is tall, dry, and endless, and crows call out somewhere in the distance, unseen. Past a signpost pointing toward Ol' River, something is waiting on the ground — a small, unassuming book.

It shouldn't be able to talk. It does anyway.

A possessed book has a proposition: finish a ritual left undone long ago, and it'll make the effort worth your while. Agree, and the deal is sealed.

From there, you're mostly on your own — the book only offers a nudge here and there, just enough to keep you moving in the right direction. You'll push through overgrown fields lit only by dying moonlight and firelight, break the roots sealing an ancient, hollowed tree trunk, and hunt down three Fire Spirits hiding in the dark — Red, Blue, and Green, each a flicker of color in an otherwise lightless world.

You get the feeling you're not out here alone.

Find all three Spirits. Carry them to the altar. Light the candles.
